PASSAU & cruise start 9-5-2015

In the morning after breakfast we walked through the old streets of PASSAU. But because it was raining nearly all the time, we stopped often to look inside a gallery or a jewelery shop. And for lunch Manja had her schweinebraten.

Since I was in PASSAU the last time in january 2013, the water has been rising very high in june 2013; how high you can see from the damaged paint on the wall. Only in 1501 it was once a bit higher !

At 14:00 we went back to our hotel and heard that our boat had not arrived in pasau yet; because of high water and very fast running water, the ship had problems to pass a bridge. But the boat was now expected at 16:00. Later we heard that the dutch captain had filled all the tanks on board as full as possible to bring the boat down; on the top deck some of the railings were also broughed down. At 15:30 we saw the SILVA pass our hotel and at 16:00 we were transfered to the a-rosa SILVA on the donabe-quay, close to the Luitpold bridge.

We were checked-in and ready to go around 17:00 and while we unpacked our luggage the SILVA took off quickly, to travel to be in Vienna tomorrow.

We had enough day-light to see the first 2 locks, sitting inside in the lounge while it was raining outside, enjoying our first drinks and later our evening meal, which we were eating with a mother and daughter from austria and the ships-doctor and his wife on our other side.  Then the sun disappeared and it was too dark to see much of the landscape but the tv in our room shows us were we are and also the view from a camera attached to the front of the boat, and we kept our curtains a little bit open so we could see some lights passing by while we were laying in our beds.
