o porto

today is saturday and and a lot of people are jogging along the douro or kanooing on it next to our apartment, which is on the 1st floor above a small cafe.

bridges are fascinating everywhere, and also here in oporto. we stay at the bottom of the 70m high dom luiz 1 bridge, that is build by a coworking engineer from gustav eiffel, who build the similar dom maria pia bridge a few km to the east.

the last bridge is only used as train bridge now, while the dom luis 1 bridge is more impressive and is used for cars downstairs and for the metro on top; and on both levels you can walk on foot also (we did!).

porto is known for its beautiful train station sao bento, with many tiles inside decorating the walls.

and other houses, churches and buildings with a special portugees run-down charm.

everywhere they sell cabalau (bacaloa in spain, kabeljauw in the netherlands), and you can eat them in all sorts of dishes nowadays.

as lunch we tried some portugees specialties (as you can see written portugees is understandable but when they speek it, for us its like russian!:

after walking through the center we went across the douro on top of the dom luiz 1 bridge and went down with the gaia cable-car (toffie was curiously looking outside),
and walked trough the back-streets with the port-wine-cellars, and after tasting some port we walked to our apartment.
